This large vintage pottery vessel originates from Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico, and exemplifies the bold graphic language for which Jemez pottery is especially admired. Hand-coiled in earthenware clay, the vessel is finished in a warm, natural slip and meticulously painted with layered black and soft terracotta geometric motifs that move fluidly around the form.

At 7 inches high and 10 inches wide, the scale gives the piece a strong visual weight while maintaining balanced proportions. The rounded body and broad shoulder create a sense of quiet monumentality, while the finely executed pattern work reveals a steady hand and careful attention to rhythm, symmetry, and negative space. The matte surface and mineral-based pigments lend depth and softness to the overall composition.

Made using traditional Pueblo techniques and low-fired to preserve the character of the clay, this vessel reflects both cultural continuity and individual expression. The underside shows signs of hand finishing and age consistent with mid- to late-20th-century production.

Equally compelling as a standalone object or integrated into a curated vignette, this piece brings warmth, graphic clarity, and a sense of grounded craftsmanship to any interior. A striking example of Jemez Pueblo pottery, notable for its scale, form, and confident decorative language.
