An exceptional and complete eight-map retractable school chart set produced by Denoyer-Geppert Co., one of the foremost American makers of mid-century educational visual aids. Dated 1966 and mounted on the original hardwood dowel with metal hanging bracket, this comprehensive set features a wide thematic range spanning early world history, American history, cultural studies, and mid-century geography.
Each map is printed in the signature Denoyer-Geppert palette of soft blues, ochres, and muted primaries, with refined mid-century typography throughout. Several maps are credited to noted cartographer R. Baxter Blair, whose work is highly sought after among collectors of vintage academic materials.
The eight included maps:
-
Age of Discovery, 1492–1580
-
Early Indians and Their Culture
-
War for Independence, 1775–1783
-
Development of Transportation, 1829–1860
-
United States in 1959
-
Land Use and Conservation
-
Air Age World
-
The Fifty United States (copyright 1966)
This set has survived intact—a rarity, as most schools separated or discarded maps over time. Together, they form a visually cohesive and historically rich narrative of global and American development from the 15th century through the mid-20th century. A striking statement piece and an increasingly hard-to-find complete mid-century instructional chart set with exceptional graphic character.
